Now for our Feature Presentation
In a world where one woman’s bad day is about to become everyone’s worst nightmare, Todd McFarlane Productions proudly presents… BLOODLETTER!, a Joseph Illidge and Tim Seeley production! Get ready for a pulse-pounding, high-octane thrill ride as the baddest Black woman this side of Hell unleashes a whole new brand of payback. You thought you knew revenge? You ain’t seen nothing yet. And believe me, that’s exactly the type of movie production treatment this comic book deserves!
So, let’s talk about it: Joseph Illidge and Tim Seeley’s Bloodletter. This is movie magic on paper, with Tasha Thornwall’s striking design and visceral action brought to life by artist Christian Rosado; it’s the story of Tasha Thornwall, a mystical mercenary with a past as shadowy as her targets. She’s got her sights set on Spawn, sure, but her real beef is with Al Simmons—the guy who became Spawn, and the very dude who got her booted from the CIA back in the day. Now that he’s back from the dead? Oh, it’s time for his reckoning!
Pokemon Go!
And speaking of reckoning, let me be clear: I’m not exactly Spawn’s biggest fan. Honestly, I’m here to see him get his just deserts. So, seeing him grovel right there in the opening pages? Yeah, I enjoyed that immensely, and it tells me I’m in this for the long haul. If I were a betting person, my money’s squarely on Thornwall—she’s got this incredible vibe going on that feels like Constantine met Zoe Saldaña in Colombiana. She’s out there collecting mystical sigils like they’re rare Pokémon cards (Capernaum Synagogue, I choose you!), and by the time this is over, I’m pretty sure I’ll need a full-blown chart to keep up with all her powers.
Ignorant Bliss
Now, it wouldn’t be a true action flick without a few head-scratchers, and Bloodletter delivers on that front too. Just like all my favorite action films, it even has its share of plot holes. We’re talking: What exactly was the deal she struck with Miss Sugar? How the hell did a human Al Simmons survive an exploding grenade? And I’m not going to lie, a lot of the occult talk completely flew over my head. But here’s the thing: these are those fun plot holes, the kind you willfully ignore because you’re so utterly caught up in the moment. And yes, despite (or maybe because of) all that, I’m genuinely hooked.
