Point of Authority issue 3 is here friends! I’d like to start this critique by apologizing to my dear friend and self-proclaimed “Hardest Working Man in Comics”, Victor Dandridge because I’ve literally seen the light with this final issue.

In my previous critiques I lamented that POA wasn’t living up to its dark, noire aspirations.  I described it as a hybrid of the Incredibles and Bendis’ Powers.  I demanded more jump-care, squishy violence.

I must be jaded from the latest, bloody seasons of The Boys and Invincible because now I’ve done a complete 180. 

Not only am I happy that POA doesn’t lean into those dark corners, I’m happy to report that POA #3 expands on the series’ classic superhero storytelling with the introduction of the superhero team Safeguard and the All-New Golden Guardian. 

Good Vibes

No spoilers, but Victor and penciler Andrew Fields create a climactic fight scene that gives me Avengers: End Game vibes.
I enjoyed it so much that my only real critique is that I wish the book was brighter. With scenes set in the middle of the day ala Superman or Spider-Man. Something that inspires hope instead of despair. Fortunately, Kevin DeCastro’s vibrant colors imbues all the hope necessary to bring this story home.

Class Act

In this series I feel Victor has fully committed to the type of wholesome superhero storytelling that has become very rare in the comic book market.
